It can grow up to 1.40 metres in width and up to 5 metres in length, including the tail. It can be recognised by its leopard colouring, which provides it with great camouflage on the sandy bottoms where it loves to bury itself.
Like all stingrays, it has one or two stinging spines on its long and narrow tail that it uses to defend herself.
